Bio-polymer based edible nano-coating exert minimum chemical load on perishable fruits and vegetables and extend shelf life
Post-harvest losses in fruits and vegetables which are as high as 20-30% and incur loss of about Rs 2.4 lakh crore annually, a biggest problem in Indian agriculture. Increasing shelf life and preserving quality of fresh fruits and vegetables are essential to support Honorable Prime Minister's vision of doubling India's agriculture export from US$30 billion to US$60 billion by 2022. Post harvest loss is because of inadequate cold chain, unavailability of cost effective on and off farm measures like packaging/protective coating etc. Excess use of agrochemicals for pre and post harvest application incurs cost and reduce quality/marketability of vegetables and fruits. Hence nation in need of robust-economical-farmers friendly on-farm technology to minimize post harvest losses in fruits and vegetables
