This system holds human excreta in covered pits, thereby not accessible to insects or running surface water. The design consists of a squatting enclosure and two digestion-cum-soakpits connected through a junction chamber. In the squatting area, a cement mosaic finish pan and water seal trap are fitted and the faeces is transferred to a pit. While the water is soaked by the soil, the faeces are digested anaerobically. When one pit is filled up, the other pit is connected through the bifurcation chamber. The contents of the first filled-up pit are taken out for use as manure and the pit is ready for reuse.
