Pozzolanic material from rice husk and clay, on mixing with lime, gives a good cementitious material. An intimate mixture of crushed rice husk, clay/lime sludge is formed into balls manually. The balls are calcined in open trench utilizing the heat of combustion of rice husk. The fired product is soft which can easily be ground to a fine powder. The hydraulic binder has a bulk density of 360 kg/m3, which increases to 700 kg/m3 on grinding.
