The simulation study will be carried out in the lab to understand the feasibility of fly ash as a soil water conservation tools during soil reclamation in mined out area. As Jharkhand is known for coal Mining and facing severe problem of SWC in its mined-out/non mining area and presently agricultural development in this region is much below its potential due to improper management of SWC. The proposed study will definitely improve the SWC of in Jharkhand region including mined out area.
In arid, semi-arid areas and mined out area, the land deterioration and following desertification is also a severe problem. In order to keep and/or increase soil productivity with limited water resources, water retention agents for soil are very attractive. In some arid, semi-arid and mined out areas such as the Jharhand-India, a number of coal-fired power plants are the major power sources and thus huge amounts of FA are generated. Therefore, if FA can be recycled as a soil ameliorating material to improve soil productivity, it will give a promising solution for both the FA management and desertification problems at the same time. The incorporation of FA in soil can also help to improve its physical, chemical and biological properties to the benefit of agricultural production. Researchers have found that FA can supply almost all the essential macro- and micro-nutrients required for plant growth, although it is not commonly used as a commercial fertilizer. Although the research literature contains numerous reviews on the application of FA in degraded soil reclamation, there is only a piecemeal understanding of possible use of FA in crop lands. But limited study is available to understand the feasibility of fly ash as a soil water conservation tools during soil reclamation in mined out area. The proposed study will facilitate the agriculture/agroforestry/forestry activities by improving the SWC of mined out area. At the end of the study we will develop a technique to improve the SWC of mined out area, so that the COVID migrant people can use mined out area for agriculture productivity.
