Electronic groundnut seed drill machine is a mechanized sowing device that precisely positions seeds in the soil and then covers them. Before the introduction of the seed drill, the common practice was to "broadcast" seeds by hand. Besides being wasteful, broadcasting was very imprecise and led to a poor distribution of seeds, leading to low productivity. The use of a seed drill can improve the ratio of crop yield and solves the agriculture labor problems. In order to maintain exact dropping distance between seed to seed, seed flow rate has to be synchronized with the movement of the tractor and sowing machine. Rotary optical encoders are being used to measure the movement of the tractor or sowing machine.
