The green walnuts, after harvest, are cured for a week and dehulled mechanically. For surface cleaning/bleaching, the dehulled nuts are loaded in a machine along with a bleach solution. The eccentric rotary motion effects vigorous swirling of the nuts in the chemical solution followed by water rinsing which results in a spotless bright product in 5 min. treatment. The nuts are subsequently dried. The machine can process 300 kg walnuts in a batch or 10 tpd. The kernels are packed in inert gas flexible packages for enhancing shelf like.
