Unique Features Of The Solution/equipment - How Is It Different Than What Is Available In The Market:

In tropical waters of India, raft culture technique is best suited for mussel culture considering the high yield rate of this three dimensional culture system. The mussel seed is collected from natural bed and transplanted on a rope with the aid of a mosquito netting. The green mussel once submerged in seawater, starts growing. It develops byssus threads and attaches itself to the rope. The mussel grows at an average rate of 8-10 mm per month as against 3-5 mm in the natural bed. The estimated production of mussel is 480 t with shell-on (or 240 t meal)/ha/yr. The mussel production on rope is up to 23 kg/m.
